As Senior Back-end Engineer, you will be the cornerstone of the software engineering team, turning our ambitious solutions into reality, whilst having a significant impact on the engineering processes and the architectural, system and solutions roadmap and design.
High-level responsibilities and tasks
As Senior Back-end Engineer, you are subject matter expert with regard to back-end software development and technologies. You will design, build and expand the very foundations of the technical systems at the core of our products, services, processes and operations.
You ensure a high-quality delivery with a consistent approach on 3 key domains:
Analysis and back-end designs
- Become a key contributor to requirement analysis by reviewing functional and technical documents (business analysis, high-level design, functional requirements) and providing adequate feedback
- Develop reference architectures for back-end development (data & software)
- Based on the above, design data models (conceptual, logical and physical) and version artefacts, including change logs and update scripts for physical models
- Finally, write detailed data and software architecture documents (low-level design) aligned with the objectives and constraints of the ongoing projects
Back-end development
- Implement physical data models (new and updates) according to specifications and designs
- Implement databases and other information management logic, on central and edge computing devices, according to specifications and designs
Secure software development lifecycle
- Lead the design and implementation of information security and information security controls on all back-ends, with a particular focus on logical access
- Be a key contributor to the design and operation of a suitable secure Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and required automations, supporting processes and controls
This role is made for someone who is fluent in communication with a positive and constructive attitude. You can convey your ideas clearly to the people around you. You can include people within your team in your way of thinking and easily take other perspectives into account. You are flexible and passionate about technology. You love to come up with solutions and to realize them. You are comfortable with ambiguity, figuring out things as they evolve, switch contexts easily, you think about different options and their long-term impact. You work across multiple tasks and longer-term projects while keeping stress levels down. You have at least 5 years of experience in a comparable role, ideally in an international B2B tech (SaaS) environment (start-up / scale-up) with a strong track record of collaboration with sales, internal stakeholders & partners to develop product requirements.
You can’t know everything but we’re looking for experience in a range of these areas:
- Soft and hard skills as required by the responsibilities and tasks as defined, and in particular:
- Backend engineering (including storage engines, relational databases, and robust back-end development) incl. Knowledge/experience of Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft .net
- Architecture of distributed systems, message & API-based integration and other middleware topics
- Secure software delivery lifecycle definition and management, based on common modern software development methodologies and standards
- Information system and security, infrastructure and networks, AWS or Microsoft Azure Cloud
- Industrial communication protocols & interfaces
- IoT (hardware and software)
- Fluent in spoken and written English; knowledge of other European languages is an asset.

This is a full-time position where the work can be performed within a hybrid setting with at least 2-3 day per week on site, or occasionally more if required.
